information

The Synapse Mentorship Program runs from November 2024 to April 2025 during which each mentee-mentor pair will meet 4-6 times and work on several topics according to both of their schedules. The topics are flexible and are based on your specific needs, such as personal development or professional growth. In addition to the one-on-one sessions, Synapse will host a series of events including workshops and networking sessions for both mentees and mentors. This will allow both mentees and mentors to expand their network and gain key tools to strengthen their profiles.

Are you ready for it?

For Mentees
Becoming a mentee will allow you to explore your needs with your mentor. You can focus on your personal development or perhaps on your professional growth. Whatever you decide to work on, it will be together with a mentor with a life science background like yours. They will challenge your perspectives, guide your decisions and let you tap into their experience and knowledge in an informal and safe environment.

The mentor will be assigned to you depending on your interests, your personality, and your career goals. Synapse will take into consideration your motivational letter and your choice of 9 words that best describe yourself. We have already produced a list of words to choose from – which will be evident in the application form.

Who can apply?
You are eligible to enter the program if:

  1. You are a 3rd-year BSc student or have at least one year left in your MSc’s program and you’re not going on exchange during the mentorship program.
  2. You are enrolled in a life science program at a university in the Copenhagen area (Lund University included).
  3. You are available for the kick-off event. The event will be held in Copenhagen in mid-October.

How to apply
When applying we ask for your CV (maximum 2 pages) and a motivational letter where you answer the following two questions (max. 300 words per question):

  1. What is your motivation to become a mentee in the Synapse Mentorship Program?
  2. What are your current educational/career plans and how do you believe a mentor could help you achieve your specific goals?

In the application form, you'll be asked to select three personality traits that most accurately represent you, alongside your personality type determined by the 16 Personalities test, accessible HERE. Additionally, you'll choose your desired attributes for your prospective mentor, including their level and area of expertise, as well as their academic background. This information is important for us to make the best possible match for you!

For Mentors
Becoming a mentor will allow you to inspire the next generation of life science students, grow your professional network and gain valuable skills like coaching and leadership.

In addition to the one-to-one meetings with your mentee and the main events, Synapse organizes two events dedicated exclusively to mentors. During these events, you will be able to expand your professional network.

The mentee will be assigned to you depending on your interests, your personality, and your development goals. Synapse will take into consideration the motivational letters of the mentees and your choice of 9 words that best describe yourself. We have already produced a list of words to choose from – which will be available to you after the preliminary meeting.

Becoming a Mentor
You are eligible to enter the program if:

  1. You have a life science university degree.
  2. You have at least 1-2 years of work/academic experience in a Danish labour market.
  3. You are willing to be engaged and share knowledge as well as experiences during the entire mentorship program.
  4. You are available for the kick-off event. The event will be held in Copenhagen in mid-October.

How to contact us
If you are interested in joining the program, contact us at mentorship@synapse-connect.org. We will invite you to a preliminary meeting. Here we will provide you with all the program information and assess your fit. After the meeting, we will ask you to pick 9 words that best describe yourself. The words are about personality, interests and development goals. We will use these words to find the best match for you!
