THE LIFE HACKATHON
HelloScience and Synapse - Life Science Connect invites the
next generation of science entrepreneurs to solve SDG
Challenges with life changing innovation
The Life Hackathon will be part of Synapse Connect Medicon valley, a 3-day trip of exploration of the Biotech and Pharma Landscape of the area surrounding Greater Copenhagen and the South of Sweden
As a participant you will be divided into groups and challenged to solve one of 3 SDGs by coming up with ideas based on their academic and professional background.
On the day of the event, the teams will be mentored by the Synapse team and by professionals in the field of the SDG the group will be focusing on. Using the Hello Science platform, the ideas will be recorded and protected, giving the teams the chance to build on their ideas even after the event. Bright and promising ideas could be then incubated into solid projects with support from Hello Science. The winning team will be invited to the Hello Science Live Lab.
You can explore the 3 challenges below. Please be advised that your motivational essay should include your motivation towards solving one of the SDGs, as well as a potential solution.
The challenge is developed as a collaboration between Synapse - Life Science Connect and Hello Science
Problem: An estimated 821 million people – approximately 1 in 9 people in the world – were undernourished in 2017, up from 784 million in 2015. This represents a worrying rise in world hunger for a third consecutive year after a prolonged decline.
Companies developing a solution: Impossible Foods, Beyond Meat
SDG Number 2: End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture
SDG Number 3: Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages
Problem: Approximately one third of countries have medium or high levels of water stress. Almost all countries that have registered high water stress are located in North Africa and West Asia or in Central and South Asia, and these levels indicate serious water difficulties in the supply of freshwater, at least during parts of the year.
Companies developing a solution: “Bangalore Water Startup”
SDG Number 6: Ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all
When is it?
The trip will run from 11th-13th November, including a pre-event on the 7th November. All days and visits are compulsory.
